Family member gets 17 years for torching West Virginia home
April 09, 2019, Bluefield, WV
One of four family members convicted in an arson and insurance scheme was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison.
James “Punkin” Lester, 48, was convicted back in August along with his father Windel Lester, his brother Greg Lester and Windel Lester’s ex-wife Georgetta Lester Kenney.
According to U.S. Attorney Michael Stuart, the family purchased homes in Cabell, Mercer, and Wyoming counties, insured the structures and burned them down. The homes were insured for a lot more than they were worth.
Windel Lester died before his sentencing hearing. The others are serving prison sentences.
