Louisiana driver allegedly burns vehicle he said was stolen
April 03, 2019, Lafayette, LA
On Sunday, January 20, 2019 around 3:50 a.m. Lafayette firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the 500 block of Saucier Parkway, Deballion Park. When firefighters arrived, the vehicle was fully involved and abandoned. After extinguishing the fire, the owner of the vehicle was unable to be determined. The vehicle was later reported stolen by the boyfriend of the owner. After two months of investigating the reported unauthorized use of a movable and arson, Lafayette arson investigators determined the vehicle was intentionally set on fire for insurance fraud.
Investigators believe the vehicle was falsely reported stolen and moved to the location where it was torched. As a result, two arrest warrants were obtained for the arrest of Teralyn Broussard (31), vehicle owner, and Courtney Crouchet (34) , boyfriend. Courtney Crouchet turned himself in on yesterday. There’s still an active warrant for Teralyn Broussard. Both have been charged with Arson with Intent to Defraud. In addition, Courtney Crouchet has been charged with Criminal Mischief for filing a false police report.
The investigation is ongoing. Investigators believe others may have been involved in the vehicle fire. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lafayette Fire Department at 291-8716 or Crime Stoppers 232-TIPS.
