Gibsonia doctor accused of drug fraud

February 11, 2019, Gibsonia, PA — A retired medical doctor from Gibsonia is facing felony charges for allegedly forging prescriptions and paying a Butler County man to get them filled.

Sung Hong, 77, was charged Feb. 1 by the state Attorney General’s Office.

According to court papers, Hong retired from Ellwood City Hospital in 2015 but was caught writing prescriptions for Ritalin and sleeping aid Zolpidem in 2017. An investigation revealed Hong would allegedly write the prescriptions to this friend 58-year-old William Hribal of Slippery Rock, who would then get them filled at various pharmacies across Butler County.

Hong allegedly admitted to narcotics officers that he “knew what he was doing was wrong, but he needed the drugs for personal use and was embarrassed to go to another doctor for help.”

Hong has been ordered to surrender his medical license.
