Certificate of Recognition
By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized.
INSURANCE FRAUD AWARENESS DAY
WHEREAS, the law-abiding citizens of our great Commonwealth and nation deserve the opportunity to live in safety and to lead peaceful and productive lives; and
WHEREAS, the occurrence if any type of crime in Virginia severely diminishes the quality of the life for all of the citizens of our Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, insurance fraud is ranked second behind tax evasion as the most common and costly white-collar crime, and all higher insurance premiums; and
WHEREAS, the Insurance Fraud Division of the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation was establish January 1, 1999, through legislation approved by the General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Insurance Fraud Division is to curb the growing practice of insurance fraud in Virginia by increasing public awareness, giving fraud investigators specialized training, and encouraging Virginians to report occurrences of insurance fraud to the Insurance Fraud Hotline and the Insurance Fraud Division website; and
WHEREAS, Insurance Fraud Awareness Day is designed to raise community awareness of insurance fraud occurrences, to create more widespread public knowledge of the Insurance Fraud Division and its purpose, and to educate Virginians to take responsibility in the prevention and reporting of insurance fraud;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark R. Warner, do hereby recognize May 9, 2002, as INSURANCE FRAUD AWARENESS DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
