Firefighter dies in $50K Kentucky rental-home fire

An Adair County man has been found guilty of criminal acts in connection with a fire in Adair County back in 2011 during which an Adair County firefighter suffered a heart attack and later died. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky, a U.S. District Court Jury in Bowling Green found 44 year old Steve Allen “Boo” Pritchard of Columbia guilty of arson and insurance fraud. The five day trial ended Friday, July 13th. It’s being alleged that Pritchard, along with his girlfriend, conceived a plan to set fire to their rental home on June 30th, 2011, in order to collect on a 50,000 dollar rental insurance policy. His girlfriend, identified as Brandi Waggener, has already pled guilty to both charges and is currently free on bond. She will be sentenced on July 31st. Pritchard will be sentenced on October 21st. Adair County Volunteer Firefighter Charles Sparks suffered a heart attack while fighting the fire and died eight days later.
