Life insurance cited as motive for wife's attempt to kill husband
February 19, 2018, Oneida, NY
A 27-year-old Rhinelander woman was arrested Thursday after police say she tried to hire a hit man to kill her husband.
Megan M. Danielczak was jailed in Oneida County on a charge of soliciting first-degree intentional homicide after investigators say she made a down payment to an undercover Department of Justice agent posing as a hired assassin.
Danielczak met with the DOJ agent and made the payment on Wednesday, according to a Rhinelander Police Department media release.
Police believe Danielczak wanted her husband dead because she is named the beneficiary of a life insurance policy he has through his job, according to the release.
Detectives open the case Feb. 6 after receiving a tip from a concerned person who had gotten information that Danielczak was looking for someone to kill her husband.
Danielczak was arrested in Tomahawk, where she works.
Danielczak had an initial appearance Friday in Oneida County Circuit Court when a judge set a cash bond at $15,000. A preliminary hearing in the case was set for 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 23.
