North Carolina woman allegedly seeks $10K for fake crash injury

December 11, 2017, Raleigh, NC — A Yadkinville woman was arrested after investigators say she tried getting $10,000 in a fake insurance claim.

NC Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey said 44-year-old Robin Bowers was charged with one count of felony insurance fraud.

In March, investigators say Bowers gave phony written and oral statements to claim a payment on an Erie Insurance Company automobile policy.

Investigators say she tried to get $10,000 for injuries she never had. The NC Department of Insurance says Bowers wasn't in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Bowers was arrested in November and placed in Surry County Jail on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

Commissioner Causey says insurance fraud costs the average family between $400 and $700 a year in the form of increased premiums.
