Georgia agent charged with pocketing client auto premiums
October 03, 2017, Carroll County, GA
A Carroll County, Ga., insurance agent was arrested Tuesday on seven counts of insurance fraud and three counts of forgery, Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens announced.
Lynne Marie Webb, 32, allegedly pocketed auto insurance premiums paid by her clients between 2015 and last year instead of forwarding the money to the insurance company she worked for, the Robert Kenimer State Farm Agency in Carrollton, Ga. Investigators for the insurance department's Fraud Division believe she embezzled about $2,712.
"Mrs. Webb's actions have put consumers at significant financial risk," Hudgens said. "I will not tolerate any insurance agent stealing from Georgia consumers."
If found guilty, Webb faces two to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000. The insurance department also is reviewing the case to determine whether to revoke her license to sell insurance.
